Matt is from Ontario, Canada and has been involved in sports his entire life. When his then-favourite Toronto Maple Leafs player, Felix Potvin, began playing for the Los Angeles Kings when Matt was 10 years old, he attended a game in L.A. and has been a die-hard ever since. Matt played numerous sports growing up (mostly hockey and lacrosse) and still remains a competitive athlete.
