Kings Get Kovalchuk?
I suppose it’s naive of me not to at least mention the hottest topic running around the NHL at the moment. That being the rampant rumors of Kovalchuk’s impending trade. There have been many discussions of where he might be heading, but the one that is of the most importance to readers of this blog (and specifically me), is the Kovalchuk to the Kings rumor. It’s an interesting thought, and certainly having a high-powered, elite goal scorer is something the Kings haven’t had in quite some time. Arguably Palffy served a similar role, but he was never at the same [...]
Kings Dominate Leafs
Maybe this shouldn’t be all that surprising, after all the Leafs… well… the Leafs are pretty much awful. Nonetheless, the Kings managed to extend their winning streak to three games, and have won two consecutive on the road. Not a bad start to the road trip, with the Blue Jacket, Bruins and Devils lined up for the next three games. In fact, after a tragically disappointing homestead, this is precisely the road trip that the Kings need to regain momentum going into the Olympic Break in February. I must admit the fact that the game wasn’t televised was more than [...]
Los Angeles Kings Stretch Run
Has it really been a week since I last posted? It’s amazing how quickly time flies! My apologies to all, I was away and unfortunately unable to post as frequently as I’d have liked. That said, the Kings were quite busy over the last few games. Let’s take a look how they’re doing: Kings v. Red Wings – LOSS (2-1) Kings v. Blues – LOSS (4-3) Kings v. Sharks – LOSS (2-1) Kings v. Ducks – WIN (4-0) Kings v. Bruins – WIN (4-3) As you can see from that stretch run of games, they had a bit of a [...]
Lucky Luc Robitaille – A True King
Luc Robitaille might be the greatest player ever to suit up for the Los Angeles Kings. In fact, I think I can say with sincerity that Lucky Luc is one of the biggest reasons that I’m as big of a fan of the Kings as I am. I’m sure anyone who has been a fan of the Kings since before 2006 is well aware of the impact that Luc has made on the team, but just for kicks, let’s look at a few of his accomplishments: 8 All-Star Teams 668 Goals (NHL Record for Left Wingers) 1,394 Points (NHL Record [...]
Drew Doughty for Norris?
I know, I know. The Kings play the Red Wings tonight. I can tell you I’m super excited to watch the game. It’s a unique opportunity for the Kings to put some distance between them and a team that is trying to climb back into the playoffs. Although the Red Wings are clearly not the team they have been over the past decade, they are still a very good team and a win would be excellent. That said, the most exciting news I’ve seen today is the recent article on The Hockey News where Edward Fraser lists the Norris trophy [...]
Kings destroy San Jose Sharks
The Kings effectively dismantled the team at the top of the Western Conference last night, with a 6-2 thrashing. Interestingly enough, although the Sharks are clearly one of the best teams in the league (at least through the regular season, we’ll have to see when the playoffs begin), the Kings have scored six goals on them TWICE! That’s a lot of goals against a good defensive team. In the game, Jonathan Quick was a super-stud, stopping good shot after great shot throughout the first two periods. The most impressive performance had to be during the first period, where the Sharks [...]
Los Angeles Kings in the 2010 Olympics
Welcome to the New Year! Here’s hoping this decade is far more kind to Kings fans than the last one! With the Kings gearing up to play division rival San Jose Sharks tonight, it seemed like as good a time as any to take a look at the Kings players set to suit up for their national teams at the Olympics in Vancouver this February: Michal Handzus will suit up for Slovakia. I’d say this team has a relatively low chance of making any real noise at the tournament, but certainly they’ll be tough to play against. With Hossa, Gaborik, [...]
