Major Bummer
What a let-down. After playing well, and dominating large stretches of the match, the Kings were unable to finish the Canucks off, and ended up giving up points to their conference rivals, the Vancouver Canucks. The game was a low-scoring affair, and in many respects was eerily similar to the San Jose Sharks match the game before. The Canucks came into the game shorthanded, playing without star players Roberto Luongo, Pavol Demitra, Daniel Sedin and a host of other supporting players. Despite this disadvantage, the Canucks played a strong defensive game, helped by stellar play by goaltender Andrew Raycroft. The [...]
A Rough End
Sorry for not being around yesterday, I had a long day of work in the “real world,” but such is life. Anyway, the four game winning streak was bound to come to an end. After putting up a decent fight (and Quick giving up another shot on a slap shot from outside the circles), the Kings fell to division rival San Jose 2-1. Fortunately they were able to pick up a point by taking San Jose all the way to overtime. From the outset of the game it appeared that both teams were uncomfortable with the 6-4 Kings victory earlier [...]
Draft to Los Angeles
Good news for Kings fans! Or at least, Los Angeles based Kings fans. According to Rich Hammond, of LA Kings Insider, the NHL is going to award the NHL Draft this coming summer to the Los Angeles area. Of course there are still details to be worked out, including where specifically the event will be held. Choices include Staples Center, or the newly completed Nokia Theater. The draft is scheduled for June 25-26, and is going to be one of the biggest NHL-based events to be held in Los Angeles since the All-Star game (and until the Kings make it [...]
Revenge is a dish best served… on Ice
And so they did it again. The Kings came out against a team that had beaten them only recently (4-1) in Columbus, and played one heck of a game across the board. Quick was solid, Parse put another point on his NHL resume, Frolov netted two goals, and Kopitar put some distance between him and Ovechkin for the NHL point scoring lead. The Kings jumped out to a nice two goal lead in the first period, on goals from Handzus and Kopitar. Despite having to face a penalty shot from Rick Nash, Quick came up big and easily turned him [...]
Kings-Coyotes Part Deux
After a 6-3 drubbing at the hands of the Coyotes to start their season, both the Kings and the Coyotes have had success. Coming into this game, they were tied at the top of the Pacific Division with 12 points each. The Coyotes have been perhaps the biggest surprise in the NHL with their ability to succeed where nobody expected them to. Their turmoil off the ice has been a huge distraction for the organization, but clearly it has not affected the product on the ice. Regardless, the Kings were heading to Phoenix (technically Glendale) to take on Coyotes in [...]
Chalk another one in the win column
That’s right, the Kings pulled it off again. Although as has been a bit of a theme, once again they decided to make it tense up until the very end. After jumping out to a big 4-1 lead after two periods, they (and Quick in particular) let the lead slip away, before Handzus put the Stars away with a big goal in OT. A couple story lines to follow in this game. First, Jonathan Quick let the game slip out of his grasp in the third period with some sloppy keeping. By my count there were at least two of [...]
Kings v. Stars
Up tonight is the Kings v. Stars REMATCH! After rolling to a 4-1 victory over division rival Dallas Stars on Monday, the Los Angeles Kings are ready to bring their game back to the Staples Center with the first game at home after a six-game road trip. Are the Kings going to be able to replicate their overall quality that they showed in Dallas only a few days ago? Or will the Kings suffer from a let-down at the end of their arduous road-trip? My guess is that they’ll be able to hang on for another win, even against the [...]
Welcome to… Me?
Hello, I figured now would be as good a time as any to introduce myself to the community at FanSided.com. My name is Gavin and I’ll be taking over lead blogging for the Los Angeles Kings! To introduce myself let me start by saying that I’ve been a Kings fan as long as I can remember. I recall sitting at home on Halloween when I was eight years old and watching the Kings game instead of going trick-or-treating, because the Kings were on (besides, you can get better candy at cut rates the day after anyway, and then you’re stuck [...]
