This past month in late April, the Los Angeles Kings' season ended in an opening-round loss in the postseason in the playoffs in the West this spring vs. the Colorado Avalanche in this past couple of weeks. This past season ended the same dismal way in the postseason in the playoffs in the West in the Pacific Division as the last few years in the 2020s decade for the Kings and the front office.

A postseason matchup that has been pretty lopsided between the Kings and the Edmonton Oilers in the West in the Pacific Division ended LA's playoff run in the spring in this past few years.

A handful of Kings' players in the active roster lineup offensively and in the core forward lines group need new contracts for free agency this upcoming offseason in the summer in this next upcoming few months.

Here's a look at which Kings' players will be staying and which ones will be leaving the franchise this upcoming offseason in free agency in the summer in this upcoming next few months.

Scott Laughton, C

In this past couple of months at the deadline and on the trade block from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the East, the Kings and Holland acquired veteran center Scott Laughton in early March. It sounds like Laughton is interested in re-signing with the Kings this upcoming offseason in the summer of 2026 at the center position for the team.

"The interest level is high for me, for sure The opportunity I was given here, the guys here, the staff, the way I was treated, my family came down and absolutely loved it. So yeah, the interest level is high. Not the ending you want, but there’s guys in there that really care and I had a lot of fun in the two months I was here."
Scott Laughton

Laughton was a key two-way veteran center with proven experience this past regular season in the West who helped the Kings push for the postseason in the playoffs this spring last month in late April. He registered five goals and eight total points in over 20 games played this past regular season.

Verdict: Staying
