Mitch Marner first player for LA Kings since Wayne Gretzky to have over 100 points
For the LA Kings, the sales pitch is rather simple and straight forward in that we need a player that can deliver close to 100 points to elevate the offense to match our elite defense and top goaltending. Last season, they were able to be competitive with strong defense and excellent play by Darcy Kuemper but the offense would lag behind at points during the season.
By adding a player like Marner, he not only helps the overall offense but will be a big boost for a power play unit that was near the bottom of the league. The Kings have some excellent players like Quinton Byfield, Adrian Kempe, and Kevin Fiala, but in the near future, they have to replace the production of Anze Kopitar.
With all the success the Kings have had, including two Stanley Cups, they haven't had a player who could rank near the top of the league in points for about 30 years, as Wayne Gretzky was the last to have over 100 points in a season.
The idea of being in the same discussion as the Great One, or accomplishing something that hasn't been done since Gretzky alongside playing for a Stanley Cup this season, could be just enough to sell Marner on the Los Angeles Kings.
