The Los Angeles Kings began 2025 the same way they ended 2024 and that was with a win. The Kings are in the midst of a five-game home stand and have won the first three of those games with a big win over the Edmonton Oilers, followed from a comeback win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Their last game was on New Year's Day against the New Jersey Devils where they got some revenge from their loss in December. This time they would win 3-0 and Darcy Kuemper would secure his second shutout of the season.
The Kings this season have been one of the best home teams in the NHL and have the fewest losses of any team in the league with only two. This is good news because they are playing at home much more at the end of the season but after this current home-stand they are heading back on the road with 10 of their next 12 on the road.
The recent round of power rankings on ESPN, Bleacher Report, and NHL.com show that there is some belief that the Kings can be a legitimate contender this season. In each of the power rankings, the Kings would jump a few spots and are rather close to the Top 5.
While the Kings are one of the top teams in the NHL, they still have the Vegas Golden Knights to compete with. They are ahead of them in all of the power rankings but more importantly the standings in the Pacific Division but with one win in hand and two more on the schedule, the Kings can close that gap.
