The Los Angeles Kings were in a marquee spot on New Year's Day as they were playing in the only game on the NHL schedule. They were set to play the New Jersey Devils, a team they lost to in December by a final score of 3-1. That loss was in the middle of their seven-game road trip and would be the loss that ended their six-game win streak.
On Wednesday, the Kings would get their revenge as they would go on to win 3-0 in what was a defensive struggle for both teams and closer than the final score would indicate. It would be scoreless in the first period before the Kings secured the lead with a goal by Andre Lee and take a 1-0 lead into the final period.
The third period, which the Kings have played very well in this season, was able to extend their lead with a goal by Quinton Byfield. The final goal would be by Adrian Kempe after the Devils pulled the goal with a little over four minutes remaining.
