The Los Angeles Kings picked up a win yesterday against the rival Edmonton Oilers in one of the most fun and important games of the season so far and are now right back at it against the Flyers.
Look Back at the Last Meeting
These teams met just ten days ago, with the Kings winning 7-3. Knotted up after two periods of play, LA's offense exploded for four goals in the final frame. LA had a boatload of multipoint performances, as Kopitar, Laferriere, Fiala, Foegele, Spence, and Gavrikov all had two points.
Key Points Against the Philadelphia Flyers
1. Byfield Line Domination
The Kings third line of Warren Foegele, Quinton Byfield, and Tanner Jeannot has been solid since being put together but saved their best performance for last night against the Oilers. The trio combined for all four of the Kings' goals, feasting on the Adam Henrique led third line.
They were solid defensively too, combining for ten hits, two blocks, and two takeaways. Quinton Byfield also went 50% from the faceoff dot. In terms of a pregame prediction, look for them to match up with the Flyers line of Noah Cates, Tyson Foerster, and Bobby Brink. Expect them to be riding high into another strong game against Philadelphia.
2. Plenty of chances for Offense
It has been quite the struggle to keep the puck out of the net for the Flyers. Philidelphia sits 30th in terms of goals against per game, with an ugly save percentage of .879% from the two goalies expected to dress tonight. Their PK has been bad too, sitting at 78.6% and continuing to drop. This does not line up well for the Flyers, who take their fair share of penalties. This gives LA a good chance to get the powerplay going, which looked good despite going scoreless on their one attempt yesterday afternoon.
3. Arty Party?
While there is no confirmation on it, you have to wonder if Arthur Kaliyev will return to the Kings lineup tonight in a 12/6 setup. LA planned to go 12/6 in Washington on their most recent back-to-back set but opted against it when Phillip Danault was unable to play. While 11/7 has worked great, Kyle Burroughs was a non-factor yesterday, only collecting 3:04 TOI across five shifts. We will know more about Kaliyev and his chances to play when Jim Hiller meets with the media before the game.
Here is how the Kings lined up yesterday against Edmonton. With no morning skate, any potential lineup changes will be revealed closer to puck drop.
Look Across the Ice at the Philadelphia Flyers
Philly is also coming off a win yesterday, a 3-1 victory against Anaheim. Here is how their lines looked in that one, according to reporter Jamey Baskow.
The Flyers lineup looks much different than ten days ago, as they still look for something to stick. Travis Konecny and Matvei Michkov lead the way offensively, although it is uncertain how much we will see of Michkov after he was benched for the third period yesterday. Aleksei Kolosov, who gave up all seven goals in the last meeting, is expected to start. He sits at 4-6-1 with a 3.34 GAA and a .878 save percentage.
