The Los Angeles Kings have been off for almost a week after a long road trip and played their first home game since December 7th. The Kings returned home in a big game against the Edmonton Oilers and sent fans home happy with an incredible 4-3 overtime win. This is only one game but it felt like there were a lot of questions answered against the Oilers.
These are some of the biggest takeaways from their win on Saturday.
Los Angeles Kings show they can compete with the Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers have been able to play the role of spoiler for the better part of three seasons now as they have eliminated the Kings in the playoffs each of those years. As the years have gone on, the series has gotten less competitive as it went seven games in the first meeting to the Oilers winning four out of five this past playoff matchup.
While it was only one game, it was excellent to see the Kings stay competitive and at times show they could fight back. The Oilers would score the first goal of the game before the Kings responded with two and take a 2-1 lead into the second period.
The second period would be almost all Edmonton with two goals and they had a 3-2 lead going into the final period before Tanner Jeannot scored about two and a half minutes into the third to tie it up. The rest of the third period, neither team could really get an edge over the other and it would end up going to overtime.
This game certainly doesn't erase the history the two teams have had over the past few seasons but should give the Kings some confidence heading into the remaining three regular season games.
