The Los Angeles Kings are looking for a new general manager that can take them to the next level and ultimately build a team that can win a Stanley Cup. They have had Rob Blake in that role since 2017 but the team elected to not re-sign him after his contract ended at the end of the Kings' season, when they lost to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round for the fourth straight season.
For Luc Robitaille, he should certainly have his pick of the top candidates as the Kings are one of only two teams currently with a general manager vacancy. There is a strong case to be made that the job in Los Angeles is much more attractive than the one the New York Islanders are trying to fill.
Ken Holland reportedly a candidate for the LA Kings general manager job
According to Pierre LeBrun with The Athletic, the LA Kings met with Ken Holland earlier this week in regards to their general manager opening.
There is no question that Holland has the resume that should have LA Kings excited about the possibility of him joining the franchise. He began as a scout with the Detroit Red Wings back in 1985 and after spending a few seasons as assistant general manager, became General Manager ahead of the 1997-98 season.
He remained in that role through the 2018-19 season and the Red Wings won three Stanley Cups when he had that title, as well as a fourth when he was assistant general manager.
Holland wasted no time after his time with the Red Wings ended and signed a five-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers never won the Stanley Cup but had excellent playoff success as they reached the Stanley Cup Finals once and the Western Conference Finals in an additional season.
With the success Holland has had at both stops in his career as a general manager, it is hard to imagine this being a bad hire for a team that is trying to get over the hump and make a deep playoff run.
