Currently, in the NHL, there are two teams that are looking for new general managers. This is not something either the Los Angeles Kings or New York Islanders have had to do some time, as Rob Blake was in the role since 2017 while Lou Lamoriello was both general manager and President of Operations since 2018.
With how the season ended, and with Rob Blake's contract up this wasn't necessarily a big surprise. It seemed like the Kings would have brought Blake back but the general manager felt it was time to move on to other opportunities.
While the Kings have said they have already begun their search, the New York Islanders are probably deeper into their search for their general manager candidate as they announced Lamoriello would not be returning back in mid-April. With these being the only two vacancies currently in the league, both teams should be able to attract some of the top candidates.
The question becomes then for the candidates, what is the better job for them to accept if they were offered both. Let's break down some of the selling points for each role.
