While the Los Angeles Kings are focused on the Edmonton Oilers and advancing in the NHL Playoffs, their AHL team, the Ontario Reign, have the same goal as they try to move forward in the Calder Cup Playoffs. If they are able to do that, they could be adding the Kings top prospect, Liam Greentree to the roster.

On Friday, the LA Kings PR account tweeted that Greentree was being called up to the Ontario Reign. He had spent the previous season with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL but their season recently ended in the playoffs.

Greentree had an excellent run for the Spitfires, and in 11 playoff games, he had 14 goals and 10 assists, including a game where he had five goals. This was after he finished third in the OHL in points with 49 goals and 70 assists.

Liam Greentree only likely to join Ontario Reign if they advance in Calder Cup Playoffs

According to Scott Coffman of Mayor's Manor, Liam Greentree would still need to pass a physical and likely wouldn't join the team until the next round. The Ontario Reign are currently playing the San Jose Barracudas in a Best of 3 series. The Barracudas took Game 1 by a final score of 2-0, with the next game on Saturday, and if the Reign were to win, then the pivotal Game 3 would be Monday night.

Coffman also has an important note for next season that applies to Liam Greentree but also Carter George, who also played in the OHL and was called up to the AHL at the end of his season, in that neither player will start next season in the AHL. For both players, it will either be NHL or OHL based on the league rules and they can only move up to the AHL at the end of the OHL season.
