The Los Angeles Kings secured home ice for the first round of the 2024 NHL Playoffs and did so against the team they will face in the first round, the Edmonton Oilers. The final score, which ended up being 5-0, clearly showed a game that wasn't necessarily competitive on the scoreboard but had plenty of headlines come out of that game.

Meanwhile, the Kings announced the player who would be nominated for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy on Tuesday. In addition, a former first round pick has been dominating in the playoffs of the OHL.

These are some of the top headlines from the past few days for the Los Angeles Kings.

Los Angeles Kings nominate Kevin Fiala for the King Clancy Trophy

Each NHL team nominated a player to be considered for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which honors the player "who best demonstrates exemplary leadership qualities has made a significant humanitarian impact on his community".

For the Los Angeles Kings, that player is Kevin Fiala who has been nominated for the second consecutive season. In the announcement, the team wrote the following about Fiala's contributions to children's causes:

"Through his “Fiala’s Friends” organization, Fiala hosts patients and families from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) at Kings home games, makes regular visits to the hospital, and organizes youth hockey camps and clinics to help raise money for the Kings Care Foundation and CHLA. In addition to his work with CHLA, Fiala is involved in other charitable causes, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Adopt-A-Family, among other team-related initiatives."

There is no question that Kevin Fiala has made a lot of positive contributions off the ice and is well deserving of the nomination.
