The Los Angeles Kings continued their winning ways even after traveling across the country to play the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. The Kings are kicking off a seven-game road trip but were playing some of their best hockey ahead of this road trip with five straight wins.
They continued that win streak on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders. While the Islanders did keep it close for most of the second and third period, this was an all-around solid performance from the Kings.
Adrian Kempe started the Kings' scoring in the first period, assisted by Anze Kopitar and Trevor Moore. In the second period, Kevin Fiala extended the Kings' lead before Anders Lee got the Islanders on the board. Entering the third period, the score was 2-1.
However, the Kings have been great when taking a lead into the third period, and prior to this game tonight, they were 11-0-1 on the season. It was very much back and forth as both goaltenders made big saves to keep the score where it was before Mikey Anderson scored an empty net goal to put it out of reach for the Islanders.
The performance of Darcy Kuemper should also be noted as he has been very strong in net in back-to-back games after returning from injured reserve. On Tuesday night, he saved 19 of 20 shots and has allowed only two goals since coming back from his injury.
Los Angeles Kings will go for their seventh-straight win against the New Jersey Devils
The Los Angeles Kings now turn their focus to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night in what should be a tough test for this team. The Devils are near the top of the Metropolitan Division but if the Kings are able to get the win, it will be their first seven-game win streak since the 2021-22 season
