The Anaheim Ducks played their first NHL season in the 1993-94 season, and the Los Angeles Kings have been a regional rival since that season. In franchise history, the Ducks have six Division Championships (five more than the Kings), but the Kings have one more Stanley Cup than the Ducks, with the Ducks winning their Stanley Cup in the 2006-07 season.
In terms of head-to-head matchups though, the Kings certainly own that series history, particularly as of late. Entering the 2024-25 season, the Kings have played 163 games against the Ducks and have a record of 77-58-17 with an additional 11 ties.
What is interesting for this series, is that the Ducks have actually scored more goals as they had 459 goals entering this season while the Kings have only 454 but winning nearly 50% of the games.
Los Angeles Kings have won 9 out of the last 10 against the Anaheim Ducks prior to the 2024-25 season
One of the reasons for the Kings owning the series record is that over the last 10 games between the two teams, the Kings have won nine of them. The Kings would win eight straight starting on February 25th, 2022 before the Anaheim Ducks won 3-1 over the Kings on April 9th, 2024.
However, the Kings answered right back four days later with a 3-1 victory. That trend has continued into this season as the Los Angeles Kings won the first matchup between the two with a 4-1 victory back in October.
The dominance hasn't been limited to just the regular season either as the Kings have won the only playoff series against the Ducks. It went the full seven games in the 2014 playoffs but Los Angeles would end up advancing en route to their second Stanley Cup in three seasons.
The fact that the two teams are so close geographically adds a little more spice to this rivalry but it hasn't been much of a rivalry as of late with the Kings dominating in the matchups with the Anaheim Ducks.
