Alex Laferriere may quietly be one of the Los Angeles Kings’ most underrated young forwards entering the offseason.

He surpassed 1,500 minutes of ice time for the first time in his NHL career while setting career highs in faceoffs taken, takeaways, blocked shots, and hits.

Laferriere also reached the 20-goal mark for the first time in his NHL career while tying a career high with 23 assists.

Alex Laferriere's performance for the Los Angeles Kings in the 2025-26 season

Laferriere spent much of the season alongside Quinton Byfield and Trevor Moore while also filling in at center during stretches of the year.

For the second consecutive season, Laferriere posted career-best offensive numbers, finishing with 21 goals and 44 points.

Laferriere also continued developing into the type of physical middle-six forward capable of contributing in multiple situations throughout the lineup.

Laferriere also expanded his role on special teams, contributing on both the power play and penalty kill while recording career highs in power-play and shorthanded production. He recorded career highs in special teams production, including three power-play goals and multiple shorthanded goals.

Laferriere’s physical style and willingness to play through contact also helped him become a more reliable playoff-style forward within the Kings’ lineup. He was a quality contributor for the Kings in four games in the postseason vs. the Colorado Avalanche in the first round, registering four assists and four total points.

The Kings needed more center depth to step in and rise to the occasion this past regular season when a poorly-timed injury kept the likes of centers Anze Kopitar and Quinton Byfield out of the lineup. Laferriere also got a chance to shine when general manager Ken Holland and the Kings traded two-way center Phillip Danault to the Montreal Canadiens this past December.

Everything Laferriere showed this season reinforced his development into a more complete and impactful two-way forward for Los Angeles.

2025-26 Season Grade: B+

What to expect from Alex Laferriere moving forward with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2026-27 season?

Entering next season, Laferriere could become an even bigger part of the Kings’ middle-six offense as the organization continues transitioning toward a younger core. His versatility, physicality, and growing offensive confidence should keep him in an important role moving forward.

It sounds like Laferriere wants to stick more to the winger position in the roster lineup offensively this upcoming season in 2026-27 for the Kings. While Laferriere showed versatility filling in at center, his long-term offensive ceiling may ultimately be higher on the wing.

Laferriere should continue playing an important middle-six role next season while remaining a key contributor on both special teams units.
