In his fourth season with the Los Angeles Kings, winger Kevin Fiala had his campaign end in a really disappointing way as he broke his leg while representing his home country, Team Switzerland, in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
That leg injury unfortunately ended Fiala's season early in what was looking like it would be another productive season for the playmaking Kings winger.
Before suffering the injury, Fiala was one of the Kings' most potent offensive weapons. And he was lethal for the Kings on special teams on the power play this past regular season. He registered 18 goals and 40 total points in 56 games played this past season for the Kings, putting him on pace for nearly 60 points had he played a full 82-game regular season.
We know Fiala can still be a dangerous playmaker for the Kings at even strength and on special teams on the power play. The biggest question will be how much of an impact offensively he can have on the Kings this upcoming season coming off a significant injury and joining a top-six forward group in Los Angeles that has more proven experience and firepower this fall.

In the 2025-26 season, Fiala continued to play a sizable role offensively in the top six for the Kings. He scored multiple game-winning goals, four goals on special teams on the power play, and played a career-high of 19 minutes per game this past season.
While Fiala did post a decade-low -11 for the Kings this past regular season, the underlying metrics proved he was more effective than some of the more basic box-score stats would otherwise indicate.
He ranked in the top five on the team in expected goals for percentage (54.2) and fourth in goals created.
The Kings offense was already struggling with Fiala in the lineup in the season's first few months this past year. Despite missing 26 games this past regular season, Fiala still finished tied for four among Kings skaters in points (40).
He also still tied for third on the Kings in power-play goals.
Fiala was really hitting his stride offensively before the Olympic break this past regular season. In the month of January, Fiala registered five goals and 13 total points in 15 games played. It was the first full month of this past regular season that Fiala posted double-digit points for the Kings.
The timing of the injury for Fiala this past regular season was really unfortunate because he never got to play with star forward Artemi Panarin down the stretch for the Kings in the top six. The Kings had just acquired Panarin from the New York Rangers right before the Olympic break.
While Fiala's goal-scoring rate remained pretty respectable for the Kings last season, his production was on pace to decline year-over-year after scoring 35 goals in 2024-25.

Fiala is going into Year 5 of the seven-year contract he signed with the Kings back in the 2022 offseason after coming over from Minnesota in the trade for defenseman Brock Faber.
This upcoming season might be the first time where the Kings won't be relying on Fiala to be one of the primary goal scorers and offensive producers at even strength and on special teams on the power play. Having Panarin for a full season for the first time means that he can take a lot of the pressure to be a primary playmaker and creator off of Fiala's shoulders.
We have projected the Kings' first line this upcoming season to be Adrian Kempe-Quinton Byfield-Panarin. So, that leaves Fiala playing on the second forward line this upcoming season alongside center Erik Haula and veteran winger Mats Zuccarello.
New head coach Peter Laviolette and staff will have an opportunity to spread out some of the offensive playmaking this season since the Kings now have two legitimate scoring lines, instead of one concentrated offensive unit.
A relevant connection going into this upcoming season is that Fiala has been coached by Laviolette before during their time together in Nashville in the 2010s early in his career. In 2017-18, Fiala registered 23 goals and 48 total points on a Predators team that won the Central Division.
Laviolette's more attacking orienting system that emphasizes speed could play to Fiala's strengths better and could help him to get more scoring chances in the offensive zone and on the rush.
If he's fully healthy and is able to play a full season for the Kings this year, Fiala should be expected to finish with at least 25-30 goals and at least 60 total points. Assuming he returns to full health, he should still be one of the Kings' best offensive weapons and playmakers in the forward group.
