After three straight seasons of being one of the Los Angeles Kings' top offensive producers, expectations were high for winger Kevin Fiala going into this past regular season.
After registering a career-high 35 goals in 2024-25, Fiala entered the season expected to be one of the anchors in the Kings' top-six forward group again.
Unfortunately for Fiala and the Kings, his season was cut short due to a season-ending leg injury he suffered while playing for Team Switzerland at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Kevin Fiala's performance for the Los Angeles Kings in the 2025-26 season
In the 2025-26 season, Fiala registered 18 goals, 22 assists, and 40 total points in 56 games played for the Kings.
Despite only playing 56 games for the Kings this past regular season, Fiala remained one of the team's most potent and productive offensive weapons on a per-game basis. When he was healthy, Fiala was a key player offensively for the Kings, using his speed and skill to drive playmaking and to create high-danger scoring opportunities in the offensive zone.
While only playing in 56 games this past season, Fiala ranked in the top three on the team for the Kings in wins above replacement (per HockeyStats.com), reinforcing how valuable he was for the team when he was healthy.
Fiala was a key part of the Kings' special teams unit on the power play, registering four power play goals and 17 total points. He also registered multiple game-winning goals for the Kings for the fourth straight season.
Limited action and durability handicapped the overall impact that Fiala had on the Kings. The injury occurred at one of the worst possible times for the Kings, with Fiala going down in the midst of the playoff race this past spring in the postseason.
When it was all said and done, Fiala's momentum in the first half of the regular season for the Kings was halted by the season-ending injury. He ended up missing almost one-third of the regular season.
Without Fiala in the lineup, the Kings were missing a key play driver and playmaker in the offensive zone. Even after adding Artemi Panarin at the trade deadline, it wasn't easy for the Kings to replace the offensive depth, speed, and creativity and playmaking of Fiala in the zone.
The season Fiala had for the Kings in 2025-26 shouldn't be only remembered for the unfortunate leg injury at the Winter Olympics. When Fiala was healthy and in the lineup, he was still one of the Kings most dangerous offensive playmakers and an essential piece of the top-six forward group.
2025-26 Season Grade: B
What to expect from Kevin Fiala moving forward with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2026-27 season?
The biggest question for Fiala now is whether he can produce and return to full health when he returns to the roster lineup in the upcoming 2026-27 season. Fiala is expected to be a key part of the top-six forward group again this upcoming season on the wing.
A big storyline involving Fiala offensively for the 2026-27 season is the reuniting with former Minnesota Wild teammate Mats Zuccarello. Fiala and Zuccarello have the chemistry of playing together for multiple seasons with Minnesota, and they could provide an added boost for the Kings offensive core group up front this upcoming season.
Assuming Fiala returns to something close to what he was prior to the leg injury this past Winter Olympics, he will be an impactful and productive offensive playmaker who can register at least 20 goals and 50-60 total points.
