Newly signed Los Angeles Kings forward Corey Perry will be out for the start of the upcoming regular season for head coach Jim Hiller due to a knee injury. It was first reported on Sep. 12 that Perry suffered an injury on a play on the boards during a Kings team skate on Friday.

Los Angeles Kings provide an update for Corey Perry after undergoing a successful knee surgery on Friday

Perry was taken off the ice yesterday in a wheelchair after the "on-ice incident" that caused the lower-body injury in the team skate.

The Kings posted an update on X to Perry's injury status on Saturday morning, with the following statement.

"The LA Kings have announced forward Corey Perry was injured during a training skate on Friday, September 12. Perry underwent successful knee surgery on Friday and will be out 6-8 weeks."
LA Kings PR on X

The post from the Kings PR page on X this morning said that Perry underwent a successful surgery for the knee injury on Friday.

This likely means that Perry will miss the Kings' season opener for the regular season on Oct. 7 against the Colorado Avalanche. In all likelihood, the six-to-eight-week recovery timeline for Perry means that he'll miss at least the regular season's first three or four weeks for the Kings.

Perry's injury will cause him to miss the rest of training camp and the preseason for the Kings. This is unfortunate news for Perry as he recently a couple of months ago signed a one-year contract with the Kings out of free agency earlier this summer.

At the earliest, based on the six-to-eight-week recovery timeline provided for Perry's injury, he will return for the Kings in late October, a few weeks into the regular season in 2025-26.

Perry played the last two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. He's going into his 21st season in the NHL after he scored 19 goals and 30 total points for the Oilers this past regular season in the 2024-25 campaign.
