Boone Jenner, C
With how thin the unrestricted free agent market is at the center position this summer, Columbus Blue Jackets captain and veteran center Boone Jenner is guaranteed to be a hot commodity when the market opens tomorrow.
While Jenner is a career Blue Jacket and has never played for another team, he's going to want to compete in the postseason at some point soon. The injury concerns are also very real for Jenner, as he's missed at least 15 games in each of the past three seasons for Columbus due to various ailments.
But the fact that Jenner has scored over a 0.5 point-per-game pace in the last five consecutive seasons makes him a hot commodity in this free agent market.
Patrik Laine, W
A change of scenery is much needed for the former Montreal Canadiens, Blue Jackets, and Winnipeg Jets playmaking winger Patrik Laine. After missing most of this past regular season with the Habs due to an upper-body injury, Laine will be looking for a destination where he can recapture his offensive magic as a top-six scorer and a special teams weapon on the power play top unit.
When he's healthy and in a productive situation offensively, Laine is easily a 20-to-30 goal scorer and capable of registering over 50 points.
We've discussed before on the site the possibility of the Kings taking a flier out on the potential and offensive playmaking that Laine brings. There is obviously a risk here considering how little Laine has actually played on the ice in this past couple of years, but the upside is clear with him offensively, scoring the puck.
Since the Kings have needs in the roster lineup on the blue line on defense, at the center position, and with scoring depth in the top six, there should be no shortage of intriguing options between free agency and the trade market this summer.
