Angus Booth, D
Defenseman Angus Booth debuted for the Kings this past regular season in a game in March against the Colorado Avalanche. He played on the third pairing in place of an injured Brian Dumoulin on the blue line for the Kings.
A strong performance in training camp and the preseason this fall from Booth could earn him a spot on the NHL roster on the blue line going into the regular season for the Kings.
After an injury limited Booth's opportunity this past season to consistently break into the lineup with the Kings, this year's training camp gives him a much bigger opportunity to show he's ready to challenge for a spot on the team's blue line.
The Kings have been needing another puck-moving defenseman to be able to help the play in transition and in the offensive zone to bolster this group on the blue line this offseason. I don't think Booth needs to show he can win a position battle against an established veteran, but he can make headway to being the seventh defenseman with a strong showing in training camp.
In Booth's case, the challenge will be showing puck-moving ability that can translate in the NHL without giving up stability in the defensive zone. Young defensemen can have a tougher path to earning the coaching staff's respect, and Booth needs to show that he can handle the pace and defensive responsibilities that come with an NHL role.
