In roughly a month from now, the Los Angeles Kings and new head coach Peter Laviolette will begin training camp this fall. The Kings have some position battles and roster spots to figure out in training camp and the preseason this fall before opening night of the regular season.
Not all of these Kings' rookies need to become stars right away, but if even one of them earns a spot on the opening-night roster coming out of training camp this fall, it would be an encouraging sign for Los Angeles. This would show that the franchise's next wave of young talent is beginning to arrive.
Three rookies to watch during Los Angeles Kings training camp
Here are three Kings' rookies who can make the NHL roster coming out of training camp and the preseason this fall.
Jared Wright, W
This past regular season, young and speedy winger Jared Wright emerged as a role player in the bottom-six forward group for the Kings. Wright cracked the lineup for the Kings down the stretch this past regular season to play 23 games, and he saw action in all four postseason games in the first round vs. the Colorado Avalanche.
Wright has already proven he can contribute in a bottom-six role for the Kings with his speed, steady two-way play, and forechecking ability. Since he already has NHL experience under his belt from this past regular season, Wright could have the clearest path to making the opening-night roster.
Angus Booth, D
Defenseman Angus Booth made his NHL debut for the Kings this past regular season against the Colorado Avalanche, giving him a brief taste of live-game action at the next level. In this past season, Booth emerged as one of the Kings' most promising defensive prospects. And the team's need for more mobility and puck movement on the blue line could create an opportunity for him to earn the seventh defenseman role in training camp.
Even if Booth doesn't make the opening-night lineup, a strong showing in preseason and training camp this fall could put him in a position to get a look when the Kings need defensive reinforcements this upcoming season.
Martin Chromiak, W
In the last few seasons, winger Martin Chromiak has steadily developed into one of the Kings' more productive offensive prospects, putting himself in a position to compete for an NHL role this fall.
Earlier this offseason, the Kings signed Chromiak to a one-year, two-way contract extension for the upcoming 2026-27 season, worth around $850K in base value.
The biggest question with Chromiak is whether his offensive production in the AHL with the Ontario Reign can translate against NHL competition. If it does, he has the natural skill set to challenge for a bottom-six role and provide secondary scoring for the Kings.
