The Los Angeles Kings continued adding to their organizational depth this offseason by re-signing forward Martin Chromiak to a one-year, two-way contract. Chromiak signed a one-year contract extension deal with the Kings late this week on Thursday, worth around $850K in average annual value.
While the move may not generate the same attention as a major free-agent signing or trade, it represents an important opportunity for one of the organization's longest-tenured forward prospects heading into the 2026-27 season.
The Kings officially announced the signing on Thursday, keeping Chromiak in the organization for the 2026-27 season and giving him another opportunity to compete for NHL minutes.
Following five seasons of development in Ontario, Martin Chromiak could be closer than ever to earning a spot with the Los Angeles Kings
The new contract gives Chromiak a legitimate opportunity to compete for a roster spot with the Kings during training camp and the preseason.
This news comes under one week after the Kings announced the signing of forward Aatu Jamsen to a one-year, two-way contract deal early this offseason.
Chromiak emerged as a top offensive weapon in the zone, scoring the puck for the Kings' AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign, this past regular season. He scored a team-high 28 goals, 28 assists, and 56 total points in 71 games played in the regular season for the Reign.
In five postseason games played in the Calder Cup Playoffs, Chromiak also registered one goal and one total point for the Reign this spring.
Chromiak has continued to improve his offensive output year-over-year every single season he's played with the Reign in the AHL in the 2020s decade (since the 2020-21 regular season).
In over 250 career regular season games played with the Reign in the AHL over the course of five years, Chromiak has amassed 76 career goals, 79 assists, and 155 total points.
That level of consistency is one of the biggest reasons the Kings were willing to bring him back. Chromiak has steadily developed into one of Ontario's most reliable offensive contributors and has earned the chance to compete for a larger role.
After five seasons in the Kings' development system, the focus now shifts to whether Chromiak can translate that success to the NHL level. The new contract gives him an opportunity to compete for a roster spot during training camp and the preseason, but he will need to prove he can earn a role in Los Angeles.
Chromiak also gained valuable experience representing Slovakia at the 2026 IIHF World Championship. He recorded four goals and six points in seven games, further demonstrating the offensive ability that could help him push for NHL opportunities next season.
Chromiak was the fifth-round pick of the Kings (128th overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
If Chromiak does make the NHL roster for the Kings coming out of training camp and the preseason this fall, he would make his debut in the league for Los Angeles.
The contract does not guarantee Chromiak a roster spot, but it does give him his best opportunity yet to prove he belongs in Los Angeles. After five productive seasons in the AHL, the next step is clear. For both Chromiak and the Kings, the 2026-27 season could determine whether he can finally establish himself as an NHL player.
