Auston Matthews, F
In this past couple of months and early this offseason, the Kings have been involved in various conversations in the media and on social media with the possibility of trading on the block for Toronto Maple Leafs' superstar Auston Matthews.
There have been various rumors and conversations in this past few weeks in the East that Matthews could be traded if things fall apart between him and the Maple Leafs early this offseason this upcoming summer.
Currently, there aren't that many indications that the Maple Leafs are actively wanting to trade Matthews on the block this upcoming offseason in the summer. But the disappointment of the Maple Leafs missing the postseason in the East has fueled speculation about the long-term direction of the franchise with Matthews.
I want to be clear that I don't think there is a realistic situation where the Kings are a viable player in the potential trade stakes for a superstar of Matthews' caliber this upcoming offseason in the summer.
Anytime a conversation surrounding a player of Matthews' caliber comes up, the Kings are naturally one of the teams that come up in that discussion because of the market size and the team's need for a long-term face of the franchise center position player this upcoming offseason in the summer.
Matthews really could immediately transform the franchise in the core forward lines group up front in the active roster lineup this upcoming season. He would also give the Kings' a true superstar face of the franchise at the center position this upcoming season.
The Kings have been a playoff contender in the West in the Pacific Division in this past few years. But the roster lineup has lacked a true difference-maker that brings the type of offensive impact, scoring the puck in the zone, like Matthews who can instantly change the game or a playoff series in the postseason.
