Patrick Kane, W
In a pretty underwhelming unrestricted free agent class this offseason, most of the bigger names are proven veterans who would've been big names on the open market a decade ago. Future Hall-of-Fame forwards like Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane, and former All-Star forwards like Claude Giroux and Jamie Benn are set to become unrestricted free agents tomorrow morning.
It's unknown if Kane will ultimately re-sign with the Red Wings this offseason. If he wants to return to the postseason, then a landing spot like Los Angeles could hypothetically make sense for Kane in free agency this summer.
Kane can definitely still be a productive player, especially on special teams on the power play. But the Kings' biggest priorities this offseason focus on improving center depth and adding more help on the blue line. Committing money to another veteran winger would hypothetically make it more difficult to address those other bigger priorities and roster needs.
While the Kings are looking to add a top-six scorer and proven playmaker to the forward core this upcoming season, I don't think Kane is the right fit. The Kings need someone who can produce a little bit more consistently at this point of their career than someone like Kane.
That's not to mention the fact that Kane wouldn't fill a primary need for the Kings this summer in free agency. The primary needs the Kings and Holland are looking to fill are adding more depth and talent in the middle of the lineup and getting more depth on the blue line.
