Most of the former Los Angeles Kings players who donned the black and silver uniforms this past season have found new homes via free agency this offseason, including winger Andrei Kuzmenko and winger Jeff Malott.
The Kings were also busy on Day 1 of unrestricted free agency this offseason in this past week, signing proven veterans to add more experience and depth in the roster for this upcoming season.
These former Los Angeles Kings are still waiting for the right opportunity after the opening day of free agency
While the first wave of unrestricted free agency has come and gone this past week, there are still some opportunities that remain for multiple former Kings' players to continue their NHL careers. As we approach the start of training camp and the preseason this fall, it wouldn't be surprising to see some familiar faces find new homes and destinations before the start of the upcoming 2026-27 season.
Here are three former Kings players who are still unsigned in free agency this offseason.
Kyle Burroughs, D
Former Kings' and San Jose Sharks defenseman Kyle Burroughs has made a career for himself contributing on the blue line to different teams in the Western Conference. He's been a depth defenseman for the Kings in this past couple of seasons after spending time in the Pacific Division for the previous three years in San Jose and Vancouver.
After spending this past couple of years with the Kings' organization, including playing this past regular season with the Ontario Reign in the AHL, Burroughs is looking for a new contract with a new team this summer.
Burroughs was a depth contributor on the blue line for the Kings in the 2024-25 regular season, playing in 33 games while registering three assists and three total points.
His experience as a depth defenseman on the blue line should make him an appealing option for teams looking to bolster their depth at the position going into training camp and the preseason this fall. Regardless if he lands an NHL contract right away this offseason, he could still be a viable candidate for a two-way deal or maybe a professional tryout option.
Tanner Pearson, W
The former first-round draft pick (30th overall) of the Kings in the 2012 draft, winger Tanner Pearson helped Los Angeles win a Stanley Cup in his first full season with the team in 2014.
Pearson played the first six seasons of his career in Los Angeles before he was traded by the Kings to the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Carl Hagelin in the 2018-19 season. He's mostly played the role of a physical and gritty bottom-six forechecking forward who brings experience and can win those tough 50-50 puck battles on the boards in both zones on the ice.
This upcoming season, Pearson will be looking to find a new home where he can contribute consistently with a team that needs more proven experience and veteran voices in the locker room and on the roster.
Ben Hutton, D
Over this past decade or so, Ontario native defenseman Ben Hutton has spent most of his NHL career playing for teams in the Pacific Division, including the Kings, Vancouver Canucks, and most recently the Vegas Golden Knights in this past five seasons.
Hutton served as a reliable seventh defenseman who could contribute when called upon for the Golden Knights in the 2020s decade, including scoring six goals and 15 total points in Vegas this past regular season. He's been beloved in the locker room pretty much every team he's played for in this past decade, including the Golden Knights.
In the 2019-20 season, Hutton played in the bottom-four defensive pairings on the blue line for the Kings.
