Angus Booth, D
A real sleeper candidate to watch among the young defensemen on the Kings' blue line this fall in training camp will be Angus Booth. The impressive and talented defenseman prospect, Booth, could compete for NHL minutes in training camp if he stands out to the new coaching staff in team drills, scrimmages, and the preseason.
I don't think Booth needs to prove that he can permanently earn a role in the top six immediately coming out of training camp to make a big impact on the blue line this season. If he can establish himself as one of the Kings' top depth options when injuries strike on the blue line, there will be plenty of opportunities for him to work his way into the lineup over the course of an 82-game schedule.
What makes Booth so intriguing is that his skating and puck-moving ability fits with what the Kings are looking to add on the blue line. The Kings want the defensemen to play with more pace and to find more ways to contribute offensively and in transition, and a strong showing from Booth could make it difficult for the coaching staff to keep him out of the conversation for the NHL roster.
