LA Kings Re-Sign Christian Wolanin to One-Year Deal
The LA Kings continue their offseason as it was announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed defenseman Christian Wolanin to a one-year, two-way contract.
Defenseman Christian Wolanin will be looking forward to beginning his first full season in Los Angeles. On Tuesday, the LA Kings announced that they have re-signed the blueliner to a one-year, two-way contract.
Wolanin was acquired by the Kings on March 29 from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Michael Amadio. Yet, while it may not have been a major deal, the trade had marked fresh new starts for both players involved. For Wolanin, in particular, he was forced to begin his stint with his new team in quarantine given the unusual nature surrounding the 2020-21 season.
Upon the conclusion of his quarantine, Wolanin was assigned to the Ontario Reign where he made an immediate impact, collecting three assists in two games. The North Dakota alum was then assigned to the Kings. Yet, despite not recording any points in three games for the big club, the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder displayed his defensive abilities in addition to his prowess as a leader while adding a plus-one rating to his stats.
Wolanin, however, really stood out following the NHL season in Latvia at the IIHF World Championship. There, he scored one goal and five assists in 10 games to go in hand with a plus-8 rating, helping Team USA earn the bronze medal.
Wolanin’s acquisition in March helped the Kings add some defensive depth. Wolanin will be counted on to provide more depth in 2021-22 whether it will be in Los Angeles or in the AHL with Ontario.
A second-generation NHLer, Christian Wolanin is the son of former defenseman Craig Wolanin. The younger Wolanin was drafted in the 4th round (107th overall) by the Senators in 2015.
