Late this regular season in the West down the stretch, we heard from Los Angeles Kings center captain Anze Kopitar going into his final stretch run with the team in the 2025-26 season. We only have roughly a couple of weeks this regular season for the Kings with Kopitar in this 2025-26 season this spring.

Kopitar gave an interview with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman over the weekend on Saturday (April 4) where he looked back on some of the top moments from his career in the league with the Kings and answered questions one-on-one a couple of days ago. Kopitar couldn't imagine playing for any other team in the league in this past couple of decades in his career than the Kings.
But Friedman from Sportsnet asked Kopitar in this interview where at one time he thought he might play his career in the league in this past couple of decades if he hadn't been with the Kings since the 2007-08 season. He picked going north of the border in the East to the Montreal Canadiens in this interview with Friedman.
"Honestly, I didn't, no. I felt like L.A. was my team, it's where I belong, and it didn't really cross my mind to where I'd go somewhere else. If I really have to pick… probably Montreal. I just enjoy the city, I enjoyed playing there. Yeah, if I had to pick one, it'd probably be the Canadiens."Anze Kopitar
There isn't the possibility of Kopitar playing for another team in the league in the NHL this regular season.
This isn't an unreasonable response in the interview for Kopitar, as Montreal is a team that many players in the league in the NHL in this past few decades have wanted to play for. It doesn't matter what Kopitar said in this interview where he thought he would play if he didn't end up playing for the Kings in the league in this past couple of decades.
