The Art Ross Trophy is given to the player who leads the NHL in points in the regular season. It is an award that has been dominated pretty much by the Edmonton Oilers as of late as they have had a player win the award in six of the last eight seasons with Connor McDavid winning it five times and Leon Draisaitl winning it once.

The other two times were won by Nikita Kucherov, last season and before that in 2018-19. For the LA Kings, it is an award that they haven't really had a player factor into it much as of late but has been won four times in franchise history.

Wayne Gretzky was the last LA Kings player to win the Art Ross Trophy

Wayne Gretzky would win the award three times over a five year period, starting in 1989-90 and again in 1990-91. The third time was for the 1993-94 season and that would be the last time the LA Kings have had a player to win the award.

That stretch was incredible for Gretzky as he finished with 142 points, 163 points, and 130 points in those three respective seasons. In total, Gretzky would win the Art Ross Trophy ten times between his time with the Kings and prior to that the Edmonton Oilers.

The only other time a Kings' player won the Art Ross Trophy was back in the 1970s when Marcel Dionne during the 1979-80 season.

It doesn't seem like the LA Kings are going to be having a player competing for an Art Ross Trophy any time soon. In fact, they haven't had a player record more than 100 points in a season since Gretzky did it during the 1993-94 season. The closest was Anze Kopitar in 2017-18 when he had 92 points.
