The Los Angeles Kings front office and general manager Ken Holland were quick to make moves for the projected training camp roster for the upcoming season in the West early this week, on Monday afternoon.
Goalie Carter George among the four Los Angeles Kings players cut from training camp on Sep. 22
According to a post on the Kings' team PR account on X on Sep. 22, LA has "returned" three players to their juniors teams today. After a tremendous debut in his first start in the preseason in his career with the Kings, LA also loaned goalie Carter George to the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL this fall.
George turned heads for the Kings in his preseason debut start for LA and head coach Jim Hiller yesterday against Anaheim. He stopped all but one of the 27 shots he faced from the Ducks, including shutting down Anaheim in the game's final two periods to secure the preseason win for the Kings in the third period.
The three players the Kings cut from training today today from the 59-man roster this fall included forward Jimmy Lombardi, defenseman Nate Corbet, and forward Jan Chovan. The Kings returned Lombardi to the OHL with the Flint Firebirds and Chovan to the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves.
Also, Corbet was returned to the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets.
All three players the Kings returned to the juniors today were picked in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft by Holland and the LA front office earlier this offseason in the summer.
Hiller complimented the play of the four Kings players cut from the training camp roster today for their play in practice in the past week and the preseason opener in the Empire Classic against the Ducks yesterday (Sep. 21).
"It’s hard to believe that they’re a pair in juniors together. They’d be a couple of hard guys to play against when I think about juniors, and when I coached back then. Both are big, both are competitive, both move the puck. When they go back, I’m sure they’re going to get big minutes for a good London team again. They’re developing really nicely."Jim Hiller
Next up for Hiller and the Kings is a matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights on the road in Nevada on Sep. 23 at 7 p.m. PT.
