The NHL has changed a lot in the past couple of decades, but the Los Angeles Kings still have many records that could be out of reach for the history of the franchise. Kings fans celebrated Wayne Gretzky breaking the franchise records for single-season assists and points in the late 1980s and the 1990s.
Wayne Gretzky and Bernie Nicholls hold impressive scoring franchise Los Angeles Kings records from the past few decades
While it is true that records are meant to be broken, not all records are created equal for the Kings. Many of the records that were set in Kings' franchise history have been in place for decades now. Can any of the records set by Gretzky and Co. in the 1980s and 1990s for the Kings offensively be broken in the near future?
Playoff wins: 49 (Jonathan Quick)
Jonathan Quick leads the Kings in all-time regular season and postseason wins. Hands down the best goaltender in franchise history, Quick's 49 career postseason wins are highlighted by the 32 victories he raked in with the Kings en route to winning the Stanley Cup twice in three years in the 2012 and 2014 playoffs.

Quick won all the games for the Kings between the pipes in the two Stanley Cup Championships for the franchise history in the early-to-mid 2010s. Longtime Kings' starter in the late 1980s and early-to-mid 1990s, Kelly Hrudey, is second on the list of all-time LA postseason wins with 26.
Hrudey helped lead the Kings to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1992.
Single-season goals: 70 (Bernie Nicholls)
Former Kings three-time All-Star center Bernie Nicholls pulled off one of the most impressive feats in LA franchise history in the late 1980s. He became the first and only Kings' player in franchise history to score 70 goals in a single season in 1989.
Not only did Nicholls reach the milestone of scoring 70 goals in the 1988-89 season, but he also registered 80 assists for the Kings. Nicholls registered a career-high 150 points in the 1988-89 campaign.
The only other players to score 70 goals and 80 assists in a season in NHL history are Mario Lemieux and Gretzky. Lemieux accomplished this feat twice and Gretzky did it four times with the Edmonton Oilers.
Single-season assists: 122 (Wayne Gretzky)
"The Great One" has a forever-long tab of accolades and accomplishments from his amazing NHL career. Gretzky spent eight years with the Kings, including a franchise-record-setting 122-assist and 163-point season in 1990-91.
Gretzky is the last player in the NHL to have 120 assists in a single season. He reached triple-digit assists in each of his first three seasons with the Kings in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Gretzky led the league in assists in al but one of his full seasons playing for the Kings. And he led the league in points in three seasons playing for LA.
In that record-breaking 1990-91 campaign with the Kings, Gretzky had 13 games with at least three assists and four games with five points.
