The Kings' Forum blue and gold uniforms remain some of the most beloved jerseys in franchise history, and it's time to bring them back.

There has been plenty of discussion this offseason regarding potential alternative and/or throwback jerseys the Los Angeles Kings can wear on certain nights in the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Ideas have ranged from the Kings going back to the purple and gold color scheme all the way to pushing the envelope with the black and silver, which are the dominant colors Los Angeles has worn for this past few decades in their uniforms.

The Athletic recently highlighted one jersey that each NHL team should bring back, offering a potential idea for the Kings to design a new alternative uniform in the future. The Kings' choice was pretty easy: The Athletic chose the franchise's iconic purple (Forum blue) and gold uniforms that the team wore from 1980-1988.

The Los Angeles Kings' classic colors deserve another run

Seeing how good the reverse retros were for the Kings in the early 2020s, and how iconic the Forum blue jerseys were in the 1980s, it's hard to disagree that this should be the uniform the team brings back.

The purple and gold era uniforms still remain one of the most iconic and recognizable in franchise history for the Kings. The color scheme is unique in the NHL, and it's a staple with the city of Los Angeles, especially with the Lakers purple and gold colorway.

This also harkens back to an era when the Kings were playing at the Forum, and it even predates the days of when Wayne Gretzky become synonymous with one of the most important chapters in the franchise's history.

The recent success of the throwback heritage and reverse retro jerseys can serve as a model that the Kings could use to design a new alternative jersey using this Forum blue and gold colorway. Fan reception was great, especially for the reverse retros from the 2020-21 season.

I'd imagine the demand would still be there for the Kings' fan base to have an appealing new alternative/throwback jersey that pulls from the best of the design from the 1980s era Forum blue uniforms.

The dominant black ansd silver colors will always define the Kings' championship era, and those uniforms aren't going anywhere. But that doesn't necessarily mean the franchise can't embrace and call back to another important part of its history.

It could be through another throwback jersey or another way to promote an alternative uniform, but bringing back the Forum blue and gold would be an easy win and great merchandising opportunity with the fan base.
