Offense continues to cost the Kings on the scoreboard and on the stat sheet
Just when it looked like the Kings were picking up the pace offensively, scoring the puck in the zone on special teams on the power play on the 5-on-4 man advantage yesterday, the team couldn't build any momentum on the ice and in the zone. I think a combination of giveaways and miscues unfortunately led to the Kings falling short on the scoreboard in this game in the opening frame in the first period.
"We’ve got to keep doing a lot of the things that we are doing. Obviously, we’ve got to clean up giving up some of these chances that we’re giving up and we’d like to get more than two goals. We have one in the first two and two tonight. Unfortunately, against this team, I don’t think it’s enough."Drew Doughty
When the Kings were down on the scoreboard by a score of 3-1, Smith and the coaching staff pulled the goalie pretty early in clutch time in the final frame in the third period, with around three or four minutes remaining on the game clock late. The Avalanche scored a goal to seal the win on the scoreboard late in the final frame in the third period, by a score of 4-2.
While statistically this wasn't the best game for Anton Forsberg, I didn't think most of the goals on the scoreboard yesterday were his fault defensively. Forsberg caught some bad bounces defensively for the Kings on the ice yesterday.
With how much the Kings have struggled offensively in the zone to score goals on the scoreboard in the West in this series, the fact that there were some bad bounces were enough to cost them the game yesterday vs. Colorado on the ice.
