The 2025 NHL Draft is set to kick off later today from Los Angeles. While the Los Angeles Kings are not scheduled to pick until later in the night with the 24th overall pick, they might pick up a win much earlier.

According to reports, there seems to be some question about what the San Jose Sharks might do with the second overall pick. For the longest time, even before the draft order was finalized, it seemed almost certain that Matthew Schafer would go first overall and Michael Misa would go number two.

For most, this seems obvious as Misa is easily the best forward and is someone who could probably play in the NHL next season. However, there have been some reports, like this one by Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News, that the Sharks could consider Anton Frondell.

While Frondell will be good, it is hard to imagine making a case that he is the better pick over Misa right now.

San Jose Sharks will regret not drafting Michael Misa and do the LA Kings a big favor

The rumors on Friday shifted from the Sharks not only not drafting Misa but even considering trading the second overall pick, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.

At this point, with the Sharks having to make their picks in less than four hours, the fact that there are rumors starting to circulate about them considering trading the pick makes it almost certain they don't want to draft Michael Misa. This, in the long run, will be a huge win for the Los Angeles Kings as Misa with Macklin Celebrini would have been an absolute nightmare in trying to stop these two future stars.

There is always a chance that the Sharks will come to their senses and draft Michael Misa with that second overall pick but if they don't, LA Kings fans could end up with an early win in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft.
