Is Rob Blake's new contract tied to playoff success for the LA Kings?

The moves that the Kings and Rob Blake have pulled off over the past year have been great and there hasn't been many misses. However, the fact that the two sides elected to wait until after the season begs the question if Blake returning is tied to playoff success.

This is the fourth straight season that the LA Kings have reached the playoffs and in the previous three seasons they have had quick exits. They would see each season end in the first round to one of their division rivals in the Edmonton Oilers.

The regular season has been excellent for the LA Kings and they have accomplished a lot, including being the top home team in the NHL. There is no question that four straight trips to the playoffs is an accomplishment in itself but the question is can they get over the hump and to that next round?

Sometimes, teams feel like they need to make a change for that to happen, and after changing head coaches during last season, a switch at general manager would be the only logical move.

However, with how well Rob Blake has done to build out this roster for head coach Jim Hiller it would make sense to give them another season or two together, no matter what happens in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see what direction the two sides go after the season but regardless it should make for an eventful offseason.
