The original No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 draft, Johnson still goes in the top 10 to the Florida Panthers at No. 10 in this redoing of all the lottery picks. Johnson was an impactful and consistent defenseman for over a decade in the league, playing in over 1,000 career games and scoring over 300 total points.
Florida originally picked winger Michael Frolik 10th overall in the 2006 draft in the first round. Even though Frolik played over 800 career games over 13 seasons, his production and impact didn't match that of the former No. 1 overall pick, Johnson, who won a Stanley Cup and played 17 seasons in the NHL.
In the first round of the 2006 draft lottery, the Kings originally selected goalie Jonathan Bernier 11th overall. While Bernier would ultimately go on to have a long career as a journeyman goalie in the NHL, he didn't get much of a chance to establish himself in the crease for the Kings because of some goaltender named Jonathan Quick.
Instead of picking Bernier 11th overall in the 2006 draft lottery, the Kings decide to select Okposo in this reimagining of this class from 20 years ago. Okposo is one of just five wingers from this draft class who played over 1,000 career games and scored over 500 points. At 35 years old, Okposo also helped the Florida Panthers win the Stanley Cup in 2024.
