Skilled winger Ales Hemsky was a solid playmaker and and productive forward offensively for the Edmonton Oilers for over a decade in the West in the Pacific Division. Hemsky scored over 125 regular season goals and played 650 regular season games for double-digit years for Edmonton in his career at the outset.
Hemsky stays put at No. 13 overall after he was originally picked by the Oilers in the latter selections in the lottery from the 2001 draft class in the first round.
The longtime Sabres two-way center Derek Roy was originally picked 32nd overall in the second round by Buffalo in the 2001 entry draft over two decades ago. Roy played over 800 career regular season games in the league, and he scored over 500 career points and 189 goals.
In this hypothetical reimagining of the 2001 draft lottery in the first round, the Flames pick Roy 18 spots higher than he was originally selected in the second round to go No. 14 overall.
