2. Mikey Anderson, D (8 years, $4.13M AAV)
A couple of the Kings' younger defensemen on the roster this offseason have two of the best value contracts on the entire cap sheet for Los Angeles. Defenseman Mikey Anderson signed a deal with the Kings a few years ago that just keeps looking better and better over time when he inked an eight-year contract extension worth a little north of $4 million in average annual value (through the end of the 2030-31 season) in 2023.
In this past regular season, Anderson and his top defensive partner Drew Doughty led all Kings' defensive pairings in expected 5-on-5 goals for percentage (per Money Puck).
Anderson might not be the most productive offensive player from the point for the Kings, but he does give them reliable top-four-quality minutes in multiple different situations on the blue line. Not only does Anderson provide consistent and heavy 5-on-5 minutes with the top pairing on the blue line in this past few years for the Kings, but he's also consistently been one of the team's best penalty-killing defensemen.
He ranked second on the team in time on the ice on the penalty kill this past season. Having Anderson signed to just around $4 million in AAV in the prime years of his career is a great value for the Kings in today's salary cap environment.
