4. Erik Portillo

Without question, the goalie position is the strongest position of the Los Angeles Kings' prospects and it starts on this list with Erik Portillo. It was a tough season last year for Portillo as he dealt with injuries and appeared in only 24 games with the Ontario Reign.

In those games, Portillo statistically took a step backwards from the prior season as his goals against average increased from 2.50 to 2.82 and his save percentage decreased from .918 to .889. However, last season he did get his first taste of the NHL and appeared in one game, which was a win and he allowed only one goal.

At this point, Portillo is the favorite to be the backup to Darcy Kuemper next season, and this will be the real test for him. He is described as a calm netminder on Elite Prospects, and if he can keep that in the NHL, he has a chance to be a regular contributor.

3. Carter George

Next is Carter George, who was a second round pick by the Kings in last year's NHL Draft. He has been very productive with the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL and in three seasons has a 47-46-12 record with a goals against average of 3.24 but a save percentage of .909.

George would be called up to the AHL this year when the Reign were looking for help at the position due to Portillo's injury. He would appear in two games and went 2-0 with a shutout and a goals against average of only 0.50 and a save percentage of .984.

George is still at least a season away from playing in the AHL and will return to the OHL next season. However, once he is in the AHL it probably won't take long for him to see a significant role on the Ontario Reign.
