The 2024-25 season is roughly at the quarter mark for most of the teams in the Pacific Division. The Los Angeles Kings have played 21 games along with the Vegas Golden Knights, Calgary Flames, and Seattle Kraken.
Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks have played the least 19 with the San Jose Sharks having played the most at 23. This creates a little bit of a challenge to fully understand where the Kings might actually be within their division.
Based on points alone, the Kings are currently third with 25 and two points behind the Calgary Flames and three behind the Golden Knights. One solve for this is to look at points percentage, which takes the current points divided by most possible based on the number of games.
With that in mind, here is where the Los Angeles Kings rank in the Pacific Division through 21 games.
Vegas Golden Knights: 66.7%
W-L-OTL Record: 13-6-2
Calgary Flames: 65.9%
W-L-OTL Record: 12-6-3
Los Angeles Kings: 61%
W-L-OTL Record: 11-7-3
Vancouver Canuck: 60.5%
W-L-OTL Record: 10-6-3
Edmonton Oilers: 54.5%
W-L-OTL Record: 11-9-2
Seattle Kraken: 50%
W-L-OTL Record: 10-10-1
Anaheim Ducks: 50%
W-L-OTL Record: 8-8-3
San Jose Sharks: 37%
W-L-OTL Record:
There wasn't much changes in terms of the standings when looking at points percentage compared to points in the Pacific Division. The only swap was the Vancouver Canucks being ahead of the Edmonton Oilers.
In addition, the Kraken and Ducks have the same point percentage but the Ducks would have a slight edge here as they have played two fewer games than the Kraken to this point.
For the Los Angeles Kings, they are currently third due in large part to the Calgary Flames currently on a hot streak with four straight wins and a 6-2-2 record over the last 10 games. The good news for the Kings though is that they have played a majority of their games on the road (12 out of the first 21) and with an impressive 6-2-1 home record, they could certainly close the gap with the top two teams.
