Predicting the LA Kings next free agent signing after Day 1

Even after a busy opening day in free agency, the Kings still have opportunities to strengthen the roster before training camp begins.

Former Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets winger Patrik Laine is probably the only big-name remaining free agent this summer that the Kings could possibly sign in the coming days and weeks this offseason.

Holland and the Kings were linked to Laine on the trade block and in free agency in this past few months multiple times. But the Kings never officially made a trade with the Habs to get Laine from Montreal this past season or early this offseason.

The Kings added playmaking and productivity in the offensive zone in the top six this offseason by signing former Minnesota Wild veteran winger Mats Zuccarello to a one-year contract. But the Kings are still lacking proven playmakers outside of the top five or six in the forward group for this upcoming season.

If Laine would be willing to sign to a one or two-year deal that would be a significant pay cut from his last contract value, it could work for him in Los Angeles this upcoming season. Laine would be the biggest gamble that Holland and the Kings could still take this offseason, but it would probably require additional roster moves to open up the necessary cap space.
