The Los Angeles Kings have had 27 head coaches in their franchise history starting with Red Kelly in 1968 and with Jim Hiller as the current head coach after taking over during the season and being hired as the permanent head coach this offseason. The Kings would struggle to find success early as they had five in their first seven seasons and no coach lasted longer than two seasons.

It would certainly get better as years have gone on and the Kings have had some great coaches. These are the five best in franchise history.

5. Todd McLellan

The first coach on this list is the one who was actually fired during the middle of last season and replaced by current head coach Jim Hiller. Todd McLellan joined the Kings before the 2019-20 season and would coach five seasons and end up fourth in franchise history in games coached.

McLellan deserves a lot of credit for guiding the Kings through some of the worst years in franchise history and they finished seventh and sixth in the division in his first two years as coach. However, they would make a significant jump in the 2021-22 season with 99 points and a playoff appearance. They would make the playoffs again in 2022-23 with 104 points in the regular season.

However, McLellan's teams struggled in the playoffs with two first-round exits and this is why he isn't higher on this list.
