The Los Angeles Kings hit the road after winning the first two games of the series against the Edmonton Oilers. A win in Game 3 would have given them a commanding lead and put them in a great position to finally get past the Oilers.
It was a back and forth contest for most of the first two periods as the Oilers would score two goals early before Adrian Kempe answers in the closing seconds of the first period. The second period was almost all Kings as they would score three goals and take a 4-3 lead into the final period.
Unfortunately, the third period was all Edmonton as they would score four goals (including two empty net goals) to secure a 7-4 win and keep this a competitive series. Before Game 4 on Sunday night, let's take a look at some takeaways from this game.
Penalty kill for the Los Angeles Kings struggles
Through the first two games of this series, the Los Angeles Kings penalty kill has been great and the Oilers had yet to score a goal in five power play opportunities. That streak ended pretty early in this game as Evan Bouchard would score in the first period in their first power play opportunity.
Bouchard wasn't done there as he would score on their other power play chance in the third period, which broke the tie and was ultimately the game-winning goal.
Entering this series, special teams was a key focus, and thankfully, the Kings' power play unit has stayed hot as they also scored goals on both of their power play opportunities, but if the Oilers are able to continue at a high rate, it will make this a much tougher series.
