Fighting back on the ice and on the scoreboard in the final frame in clutch time in the third period yesterday, the Ontario Reign scored a couple of goals to defeat the Coachella Valley Firebirds in Game 3 to take a series lead by a margin of 2-1.

The Reign were down on the scoreboard and on the stat sheet in the game's first 40 minutes in the opening frame in the first period and in the middle frame. The Firebirds took the lead on the scoreboard in the game's first period in the opening frame, by a score of 1-0 on a goal from forward Jani Nyman.

Goalie Erik Portillo and the Reign shut the Firebirds down on special teams on the power play on the 5-on-4 man advantage yesterday on the ice. After the opening frame in the first period yesterday, the Firebirds didn't get any goals scored on the scoreboard in the middle frame in the second period and in the final frame.

The game was tied on the scoreboard late in the game in clutch time in the final frame in the third period, on a nice and timely goal scored by forward Aatu Jamsen with just over six minutes remaining on the score clock yesterday. Under a couple of minutes later on the scoreboard in the final frame in the third period yesterday, forward Logan Brown gave the Reign the lead for the first time in the game late in clutch time vs. Coachella Valley on the road.

Brown and Jamsen helped to flip the script yesterday for the Reign on the ice and on the scoreboard late in the game in clutch time in the final frame in the third period. Portillo stopped 27 out of the 28 shots he faced yesterday, good for a save percentage north of .950.

Big efforts in the zone offensively, scoring the puck from Jamsen and Brown helped the Reign outshoot on the stat sheet and outscore on the scoreboard the Firebirds on the road in Coachella Valley at Acrisure Arena early this week on Tuesday night (May 5).

Portillo made more saves and faced more shots on goal and scoring chances in front of the net in the zone yesterday than Nikke Kokko for Coachella Valley defensively.
