After a disappointing start to the Pacific Division in the second round of the postseason in the playoffs this past week on the ice, the Ontario Reign looked much better in the opening frame in the first period vs. the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

This past Friday night (May 1) in front of a big crowd of over 6,000 fans at Toyota Arena in the Inland Empire, the Reign dominated the Firebirds on the scoreboard and on the ice by a convincing score of 5-1. Head coach Andrew Lord and the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate Ontario owned the Firebirds in Game 2 on home ice at Toyota Arena early this weekend on this past Friday night.

Like Game 1, the Reign did not have a consistent and confident start on the ice in the opening frame in the first period vs. Coachella Valley. But Ontario quickly responded later in the opening frame in the first period and in the middle frame in the second period on Friday night, with forward Glenn Gawdin scoring the game's second goal on the scoreboard for the Reign late before the second intermission and the final frame.

Pheonix Copley helped the Reign get great goaltending in the middle frame in the second period, stopping 34 out of the 35 shots he faced in Game 2. Copley didn't allow any goals after the opening frame in the first period a couple of nights ago this weekend.

Coachella Valley had the lead on the scoreboard for most of the opening frame in the first period a couple of nights ago early this weekend on Friday. The Reign responded with a goal on the scoreboard late in the opening frame in the first period from Logan Brown late in the period and before the first intermission.

Goals from Cole Guttman and Francesco Pinelli early in the final frame in the third period in clutch time put the game away on the scoreboard for the Reign this past Friday night. Martin Chromiak sealed the victory for good for Ontario a couple of nights ago, scoring on the empty net to put the Reign ahead by a score of 5-1 on the scoreboard late in the game.

Gawdin and Pinelli combined for two goals on the scoreboard and three total points on the stat sheet this past Friday night vs. Coachella Valley.

This series has been fun to watch on the ice in this past week in the Pacific Division between the Reign and the Firebirds from Coachella Valley in Games 1 and 2 this postseason in the playoffs in the second round. Game 3 will be played in Coachella Valley vs. the Firebirds at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, CA, on May 5 at 7 p.m. PT.
