The top free agent this offseason and the one that will generate the most interest is undoubtedly Mitch Marner. It is not often that a player in the prime of his career who has had close to 400 points over the past four seasons hits free agency and almost every NHL team should at least discuss how they might be able to sign him.
Realistically though it is only a handful of teams and the Los Angeles Kings are expected to be one of those teams. However if the Kings want to sign Marner, they are going to need to have a great sales pitch for Marner to pick them over the rest of the league.
Let's go through some of the teams that should be considered likely landing spots and what their best sales pitch might be.
Mitch Marner etches name in Utah Mammoth franchise history
It would appear that Mitch Marner might be destined for the Western Conference, as four of the five teams on this list reside in that conference. The Utah Mammoth are in a unique position as they can offer something that no other franchise on this list can.
The Mammoth will be entering their second season in the NHL but first as the Mammoths after being the Utah Hockey Club last season. They will be looking for a player to be the face of the franchise in a new location like Utah.
Marner certainly could do just that and would be the superstar that they desperately are looking for. The question is how much Marner values a Stanley Cup, as the Mammoth are still a few seasons away from truly competing, and that will factor in the decision.
