The Los Angeles Kings wasted no time putting their loss to the New Jersey Devils behind them as they were in control almost from the start against the New York Rangers en route to a 5-1 victory on Saturday.
Ahead of this game, the Kings made some changes to their line with Trevor Moore out due to an upper-body injury. Jim Hiller moved Alex Turcotte up to the top line and he made an immediate impact with a goal in the first 10 minutes and the Kings would take a 2-0 lead out of the first period after Warren Foegele scored a goal off an assist by Quinton Byfield.
The Kings would score three straight goals in the second period and build a 5-0 lead before the Rangers pulled Igor Shesterkin and replaced him with former Kings' great Jonathan Quick. The Rangers would add a goal to cut the lead to 5-1 but that would be the last of the scoring in this game.
These are some of the key notes and takeaways from the Los Angeles Kings win over the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Los Angeles Kings stick with 11 forwards, 7 defensemen
The Los Angeles Kings had to shuffle their roster a bit ahead of this game when Hiller announced that Trevor Moore would be out due to an upper body injury. On Friday, the Kings did recall Andre Lee from the Ontario Reign in case Moore was unavailable for this game.
For most of their win streak, the Kings had 11 forwards and seven defensemen active for games but with Moore out there was a chance they would shift back to a 12/6 roster split. That didn’t end up being the case and they stuck with the 11/7 alignment and something they probably stay with until Drew Doughty returns from his injury.
