1) Do the Los Angeles Kings need to send Erik Portillo back down and call up Pheonix Copley?
The Darcy Kuemper injury hasn't been that big of an issue to this point but it certainly was on Monday night against the San Jose Sharks. They called up Erik Portillo when Kuemper went on injured reserve but have not given him a chance to start to take the ice over roughly the past two weeks.
In that third period, would have been a great chance to get David Rittich off the ice to hopefully slow down the momentum but Hiller wouldn't put a rookie out in his first NHL action in that situation. This certainly creates a problem with bringing up a younger player like that with out really any kind of plan to get him experience.
While it is not ideal, the Kings need to make the switch and bring up a veteran like Pheonix Copley to give them an option when these situations arise. It will allow Portillo to continue to get experience in the AHL and hopefully be more prepared to contribute at the NHL level.
