The Los Angeles Kings are currently playing their fifth straight road game to open the season, and second in back-to-back nights. While the season got off to a promising start, the last few games have not been great after an 8-7 loss to Ottawa and then not looking competitive against the Maple Leafs and losing 6-2.
This was an important game to end the bad vibes and get back on track and it didn't look great early as the Canadiens took a 1-0 lead on a wrap-around goal by Justin Barron. However, in the last two minutes of the first period the Los Angeles Kings were able to tie it up with the goal coming from an unexpected player.
Mikey Anderson scores his first goal of the season for the Los Angeles Kings
After the Kings won the faceoff, they would move the puck around before it stopped with Mikey Anderson who would take a one-timer from the top of the circle and beat Sam Montembeault to tie the game.
Mikey Anderson has been a key part of this roster and is why the Kings named him the assistant captain for road games this season. However, he is not known for the offensive part of his game with 11 career goals in the first five seasons in the NHL and more than two only once in his career.
This past season, Anderson had only two goals and the last time before tonight he scored a goal was March 23rd against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It has felt like the Kings have needed a spark to get them back on track and maybe a goal from Mikey Anderson is exactly what they needed to get the win before they head back to the West Coast with three more road games before they play their home opener a week from tonight against the San Jose Sharks.
